The great majestic oak
I wanted to put my shredded tshirt on display today so I wore it to school. I wanted to wear it like this:
However, after thinking it over I decided to just put a light tank top under it because there was a 99.9% chance of me getting in trouble otherwise. Also, for the first hour or so of the day I wore it inside out because I was so rushed in the morning I didn't pay attention to how I put on my clothes. A friend had to point it out to me.

Mountain Gorillas
In anthro class, we've just finished watching a film entitled "Gorillas in the Mist." It's a movie to show the life of Dian Fossey, the famous anthropologist who studied mountan gorillas in Africa. She led a fascinating life, forcing her way into the gorilla-studying world, flipping her world upside down and risking her life day after day until she was -sadly- assassinated.
The movie is extremely moving, bringing tears to your eyes every time one of her hairy friends is threatened. It was made in, I think, the 60s so the obvious "problems" are to be expected but it is truly captivating. If you haven't seen it, go to Blockbuster and grab a copy because it's two hours you won't regret.

The End
The end result of my shredded tshirt. I'm going to lasertag after work tonight and shall be wearing it (with a deep blue tank under, though). I'm still pondering as to what I should wear under it - the shirt's too seethrough to wear nothing so I'm wondering maybe a bandeau? I do have a shiny purple one...

Enforcements
So today was a beautiful 21 degrees outside so I busted out an "old favourite." I put denim shorts under the dress, however, as the tights weren't entirely opaque.
Interesting tidbit of information: my principal made an announcement today reminding us, once again, of the dress code. As he stated: "As the weather gets warmer, you're likely to wear less clothing but I must remind you to dress professionally. Skirts should come to the knee, shirts should go up to the collar bone, and the bottom of your top should reach the top of your bottoms."
At this point he began to sound like he was stuttering and finished with: "Basically, no bellies, no butts, no boobs. Thank you and have a great day."
He made no mention of backs, however.

This is fact not fiction
I was going to wait until I was done my shredded tshirt to give a tutorial but here it is anyhow (I saw "State of Play" tonight instead - worth it!):
Step 1: Get a shirt. Don't be getting some sort of wool or insane fabric like that. Stick with some regular cotton shirt and you'll do fine.
Step 2: Cut off the hem of such shirt. Try to be as straight as possible because I found it somewhat difficult if your hem is all over the place.
Step 3: Using either a seamripper device, a pencil, or your fingers, slowly begin pulling at the end of the fabric. You should see strands of the horizontal parts of fabric begin to come out/apart. They may be extremely far apart and very loose but the further you get into the shirt the more normal it becomes.
Step 4: Just continue pulling, basically. This isn't so much difficult as it is time consuming. What I did was I would put my left thumb and index finger underneath the section I was pulling at and pull with my right hand so it came apart easier as opposed to just ripping it.
Step 5: If a hole appears it's not a big deal. If you don't want holes, don't pull as hard. Go as high up as you want and do it wherever on the shirt you want - it's really your choice. I believe you can machine wash them (I think!) but if you want to be extra-careful just hand wash it and hang to dry.
I hope you understand the instructions! Good luck!
PS-> ordered things off urbanoutfitters.com and gojane.com. Shall reveal what they are when they arrive! Two words: beautifully speechless.

DIY: shredded t-shirt
So basically, I've seen a few people with shredded tshirts and wanted one of my own. After finding a tutorial on childhood flames (located on blogroll) I decided to try it. I first used a pink tanktop as practice as it was too small for me anyhow.
After it going to well with the pink one, I grabbed a green tank that I would use as my real one. However, this shirt obviously hates me and decided to be insanely difficult to work with. It was near impossible not to make holes and it took an hour to do the whole length of the pink shirt and it also took an hour to do that little section on the green one.
But I am not a quitter! No - instead, I went to Zellers and bought a 3pack of Midtown men's tshirts (they're just like Hanes tshirts) and am using one of those instead. It is going great; I have a few holes but nothing too significant. I'm going to cover a large portion of the backside and, if all goes according to plan, I shall do another covering part side part front.
Progress has been made!

I'm hoping to be done by the end of the week (I have work, projects, and this is incredibly slowgoing!) but I don't know what to put under it. See, I'd like to wear it to school and our principal had made an announcement last week about how even though the temperature is getting warmer we are still a "business environnement." I'm wondering if a white bandeau would be ok or if I should just wear a tanktop under it? Also, I may have dislocated my left thumb doing this.

Shush girl, shut your lips, do the Helen Keller and talk with your hips
So my friend told me about the song "Don't trust me" by "3Oh!3" and I can't stop listening to it now. The song gives off a very "I just woke up, I'm not put together but -damn- I look good" kind of feel. It's my new addiction. Here are a few pictures from my Inspiration folder (thought I'd just share them with you).
This man has what I like to call a "hug hump." It's when you have a bump on your stomach so when someone hugs you they have to curve to the bump. They're generally very comfortable. I also love the insane amount of layering going on.
Mary-Kate Olsen; enough said. The perfect sequin dress.

Options
Starting to see shorter hemlines out lately. You know what really bothers me, though? When people wear leggings as pants. Seeing a lot of those, too. I don't know why but it really pushes my buttons! Wear a short dress or a long shirt, just make sure all your "bits" are covered...

Ray of Sunshine
So it was about fifteen degrees outside so I busted out an old dress I hadn't worn in a few years. Luckily, a friend and I ate outside on picnic tables at lunch although the breeze did make it a tad chilly.
If I roll these boots up, they go past my knees...
My friend and I just being ourselves.
I hope everyone had a fantastic easter!

Long Weekend
These are from the past two days:
(Old Navy skirt, American Eagle shirt, vintage necklace)
I'm so excited about it being the long weekend. I'm working tomorrow morning but other than that I've got plans with friends the whole time. I don't get to just "hang out" with friends very often anymore, we have too much going on. Well, I'm looking forward to it all!
